Aqua Logistics provides door to door movement including Air Charter and road transportation of 22 metric tonnes of cargo (Rotor blades) for a 4 X 135 MW Captive Power Plant

“Capacity of 200,000 tpa. of calcined alumina, 350,000 tpa. of aluminium metal and 810MW power plants.”

The client plays a pivotal role in making aluminium, and is a London listed metals and mining major with Aluminium, Copper and Zinc operations in UK, India and Australia. The company produced 219,485 tonnes of calcined alumina and 173,743 tonnes of hot metal in FY 2005-06 and sold 171,206 tonnes of aluminium. It has fully computerized cold rolling mill installed, which has precise temperature controls.

Situation

The company's Korba facility has a capacity of 810MW power plants. The cargo was to be door delivered for turbines of a 135 MW captive power plant. It was to be picked up from the shipper and was to be land transported to Chengdu airport (the capital of Sichuan province in South- West China). Custom clearance was also required to be done along with documentation handling. The 22 metric tonnes of cargo consisting of Rotor blades was then to be air freighted from Chengdu airport in China to Nagpur airport in India. Again all the custom clearance facilities and documentation formalities were to be taken care of and the cargo was to be road transported to the client's site.

One of the biggest challenges was to handle regulatory permission from civil aviation and taking other necessary permissions from various authorities because it was the first international charter to Nagpur and the port didn't have advanced facilities. Another challenge was ensuring that delivery commitments were met in a safe and timely manner.

Solution

Aqua Logistics managed the road transportation of the 22 metric tonnes of cargo consisting of Rotor blades from the shipper to the Chengdu airport in South- West China. Aqua Logistics took care of all the custom clearance facilities and documentation at the port under EPCG rules. Aqua Logistics provided Air Charter facility to the client for the cargo movement from Chengdu airport to Nagpur airport. It being the first international chartered air freight carrier to Nagpur Airport, Aqua Logistics took all the necessary and regulatory permissions from civil aviation and other authorities. Also, it was the first time that the dry port facilities of airport have been to put to good use. At the destination also Aqua Logistics undertook and handled the custom clearance formalities with the necessary documentation.

As the client's site, where the cargo was to be delivered, is located in Korba which is in the interior of Chhattisgarh, Aqua Logistics provided land transportation from Nagpur airport to the site.

Results

Aqua Logistics managed the complete door to door movement of the cargo within the specified time with its network and expertise. Rotor blades are supposed to be a very important component for a power plant and understanding this sensitivity. Aqua Logistics successfully fulfilled delivery commitments to the client by delivering the cargo in a safe and timely manner.
